Job Title: Commercial Finance Director

Level: L3

Reports To: Commercial Director, Nigeria

Context/Scope:

Africa is one of the highest growth areas within Diageo and the plans for financial year 2012 (F12) – Financial year 2015 (F15) in Africa include breakthrough levels of trading profit growth. Guinness Nigeria Plc (GNPlc) is the biggest market within Diageo Africa and one of the biggest beer markets for Diageo worldwide and key to Diageo’s strategic intent of becoming a more sizeable player in beer.

Supply is critical to enable such high levels of growth.

Dimensions:

a) Financial

The F12 Plan stands at 6.5m equivalent units, Net Sales Volume of £550m, Trading profit of £146m, accounting for almost 40% of Diageo Africa trading profit and around 15% of Diageo’s F12 growth plans.

b) Market Complexity

Nigeria has 2 Diageo companies, Guinness Nigeria, a plc listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, which manufactures and sells beer and RTDs and Diageo Brands Nigeria (DBN), a newly formed spirits IMC which imports and sells Diageo’s spirits brands.

The market is challenging as there is significant competition in beer and spirits, Nigeria is a heavily regulated environment.

c) Leadership Responsibilities

Leading the development of an expert Commercial Finance function in Nigeria

Leading commercial business performance management, decision support and Sales and Marketing Finance

Responsibility for 4 direct reports and a team of about 12 people

Partnering with and influencing the Market Leadership Team and Marketing and Sales Leadership Teams

Taking the lead in embedding excellent Compliance, Controls and Ethics standards in Sales and Marketing

Purpose of Role

Developing and leading an expert Commercial Finance function in Nigeria, covering performance management, Sales and Marketing Finance and decision support. Partnering with the Market Leadership team and Marketing and Supply LTs to deliver excellent, well planned outcomes.

Top Accountabilities

Developing a strong Commercial Finance organisation in Nigeria , driving performance management for the business (planning, reporting and analysis for P&L, balance sheet and cash flow) and across all areas of Sales and Marketing, ensuring transparency, accuracy and delivery of targets

Support the development of a successful new Spirits business, proactively contributing to the growth of this business.

Building decision support capability in Commercial Finance to ensure all key decisions are properly supported locally by quality financial analysis to drive value maximization

Partnering with the Sales and Marketing Directors to ensure that CC&E is well embedded across the Demand organization

Qualifications and Experience Required

 Qualified Accountant with minimum 10+ years post NYSC experience

Significant hands on Commercial Finance experience, ideally as a Market Finance Director,

Strong analytical skills, including experience of hands on financial modelling for decisions

Experience of Diageo planning and reporting processes is an advantage

Experience of working in developing markets with both in market and cross-functional teams

High level of communication and influencing skills.

Project management skills, both as a leader and key team member are an advantage

People management experience / proven ability to identify and develop talents.
