Job Summary  
The Travel Officer will be responsible for providing services related to domestic and international travels for the FHI staff so as to ensure effective and efficient internal and external movement of staff.

Key Responsibilities  

Collaborate with Senior Travel Officer and represent and negotiate FHI interests to current and prospective travel agencies.
Work with travel agency as needed to obtain cost-effective international tickets and hotel reservations.
Act as liaison with travel agency regarding services and equipment used in the Travel Office and with accounting budget information related to travel.
Assist in the arrangement of hotel accommodation (in Abuja) for FHI employees, consultants and major IP staff.
Interpret travel and travel reimbursement as outlined in organizational policies and procedures and appropriate Federal and other donor guidelines and manuals.
Assist in the collation, coordination, disperse and advise Management on changes in FHI/Donor travel and transportation Policies.
Assist in the reviewing, and endorse Travel Authorization for compliance with relevant Policies and guidelines (e.g. per diem, hotel rates, etc).
Participate in the periodical survey and update of hotel information at the state level.
Assist in the creating, keeping and managing a database of important/relevant addresses and contacts (e.g. Embassies, High Commissions, UN Agencies, Development Agencies, Implementing Partners, etc).
Assist in the management of Travel MIS and compile reports for USAID and other donors upon request detailing travel expenditures and purposes.
Follow-up on visas, work permits, packing, freighting/shipping and other related issues for expatriates coming into and leaving Nigeria.
Follow-up on visas for FHI staff traveling to other countries.
Apply for, follow-up with, and obtain travel concurrence from USAID for all FHI employees or consultants coming into or leaving Nigeria.
perform other related activities assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of basic accounting and all phases of travel agency operations, including automated systems.
Knowledge of geography and travel coordination for all states in Nigeria, developing countries, USAID and other donor travel regulations.
Resourceful through technology, research skills, and relationship building among several organization teams and units and professional organizations to resolve problems and initiate enhancements.
Work independently with initiative to manage high volume, may structure work of staff members.
Interact with diplomacy and tact and follow-up on requests in timely and efficient manner.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Written and verbal communication skills.
Relevant computer software skills with proficiency in excel.
Ability to travel in Nigeria minimum of 25%.

Qualifications and Requirements

B.Sc./BA/HND in Business Administration, the Social Sciences or related field with 3 – 5 years relevant experience in travel planning, administration and logistic management in a non-profit organization or other large structured entity.
Or MS/MA/MBA in a relevant field with 3-5 years relevant experience with a travel agency or in a corporate travel division.
2 years’ experience with a computerized airline reservation systems (Amadeus and Saber preferred) and international travel reservations required.
Excellent knowledge of the geography and travel/transportation culture of Nigeria is essential.
Clear understanding of international travel reservations required
